The Hidden Gem Within Us: Unlocking The Power of Our Subconscious Mind
When we think of our mind, what comes to mind?
For most of us, our mind chatters all day long, with thoughts of what we should be doing, how we feel, what we want, etc. This conscious mind is what we use to navigate the world around us through our five senses.
Using reason and logic it helps us to make decisions ranging from what to have for dinner to what to do with our life.
This conscious mind is our protector, always looking out for us, and is personal and unique to each of us. Some call this our Ego.
There is a deeper layer of mind, our subconscious mind, that is also being protected. This subconscious mind is our hidden gem but is largely unrecognized by many of us.
This hidden mind is responsible for all of our autonomic functions. It controls our breathing, heart rate, digestion, healing and many other systems perfectly without our voluntary input. It does not need the involvement of our “thinking” conscious mind.

Beliefs Shape Reality
This subconscious mind is also our feeling mind, functioning on intuition in harmony with the Universe. It is always on, recording all inputs from our conscious thinking mind.
Our subconscious mind is brilliant and impersonal. It simply carries out perfectly whatever desires and thoughts are impressed upon it.
Here is an important truth: Whatever lies within our subconscious mind becomes our reality.
Let’s discuss a very common example of how this works.
We all have had experiences as children that were unpleasant. This could include being left out of a friend group to something more serious like abuse. These experiences made us feel bad and caused us to form one or more of the following limiting beliefs:
- I am not enough – I am not smart enough, pretty enough, thin enough, successful enough, etc.
- What I want is not available to me – love, safety, connection, acceptance, financial abundance, close relationships, etc.
- I am different and can’t connect with others.
Programming Our Lives
Usually we have a combination of all three beliefs. Our thinking mind initially forms these beliefs as it tries to make sense of our experience and protect us in the future.
For example, “my dad left because I wasn’t lovable enough”.
“My friends were mean to me because I am not fun to be around. I’m different from others”.
“My parents yelled at me constantly because I am not perfect enough. Love and acceptance are not available to me unless I do something to earn it”.
The stronger or more repetitive the traumatic experience, the stronger the (limiting) beliefs formed. These beliefs then serve as instructions to our impersonal subconscious mind that stores them safely away and uses them as a program to create our reality.
We carry these beliefs with us as we move through the world, and they underlie every experience we have going forward.
The new relationship won’t work out because there is a deep seated belief of not being enough in some way.

Not pursuing an exciting career doing what you love is based on the belief that the life you want to live is not available to you.
Avoiding social situations that make you anxious is based on the belief that you’re different and can’t connect with others.
These limiting beliefs initially based on random experiences as children have become deeply ingrained and form our programming.
Since this occurs at the level of our subconscious mind, we are largely unaware of these beliefs and patterns, but they have a tremendous impact on the quality of our life.

Beliefs Define Outcomes
Our limiting beliefs limit our potential.
They limit the choices we make, the people we pursue, and the actions we take.
These beliefs keep us living a small, safe life that is usually filled with varying degrees of boredom, anxiety, and a lack of fulfillment.
Most of us deal with this anxiety and lack of fulfillment by trying to modify behaviors, manage symptoms, change external circumstances (new job, relationship, vacation), or chase pleasure/distractions. But we know from experience that this does not work for long.
We always seem to default to our default.
This is because the limiting beliefs that underlie our thoughts, emotions, and actions remain untouched.
Many of us have corrupted our perfect subconscious minds with negative inputs from our thinking minds. Remember, the subconscious mind is impersonal and simply expresses whatever is programmed into it.
Here is another truth: Our inner state determines our outer world
Most believe that how we feel completely depends on our external circumstances. If we only had more money, a better title, and a different partner, then we would feel better. The reverse is actually true.
Reprogram Your Mind
If the foundation of our inner state consists of not being enough, not being able to connect with others, and not having love and acceptance available, then this is what will show up in our external reality.
Conflict, struggle, stress, anxiety, and unhappiness become our constant companions. We call this “normal” life. But it is not normal to live this way.
By understanding the workings of our mind, we can address the root cause of our suffering and ultimately liberate ourselves from the self-imposed constraints of limiting beliefs.
To do this, we must learn how to access the subconscious mind, discover the origins of faulty beliefs, and intentionally install a more effective program better aligned with our true calling and higher Self.
This is the path to real freedom, abundance, and peace.
